La Purisima Mission: CCC Oral Histories (2005) La Purisima Mission in Santa Barbara County is the most completely restored mission in the California mission chain. That's due, primarily to the CCC, the Civilian Conservation Corp. The men of the CCC learned the original building techniques and rebuilt the mission in the 1930s and early 40s. Some of those young men, some boys really, are still alive today. La Prelado de las Tesoro de la Purisima, the friends of the mission group, has hired SMP to find those CCC men and ask them about their experience rebuilding the mission. Interviews should begin in April. For more information about La Purisima Mission, check out www.lapurisimamission.org/ |

_________________________________________________________ Petersburg: In the Heart of Southeast Alaska (2004)(2005?)
We are on a roll with Alaska and promotional DVDs! The chamber of commerce of Petersburg, AK hired SMP to produce a promotional DVD for their wonderful, authentic little town. Inaccessible to the huge cruise ships, Petersburg is a fishing community surrounded by glacier-draped mountains, the Tongass National Forest, and Federick Sound, alive with marine life. It was a pleasure shooting two weeks over two visits last spring and summer. We delivered their DVD master in September. The Chamber president said, it's been a huge hit. We're in talks now to update it with 30-second commercials for local businesses. To learn more about Petersburg and get a copy of the DVD, check out the Petersburg website at www.petersburg.org. |

_________________________________________________________ National Geographic's Crittercam (2004)
Lisa was hired to edit a 30-minute show on the history of National Geographic's Crittercam. The Remote Imaging Lab at National Geographic designs and builds remote cameras that are attached to wild animals. The animals are the shooters until the cameras release at a designated time. The cameras record the real lives of animals without the influence of a human cameraperson in the vicinity. The show highlighted some never before witnessed behaviors of a collection of marine species, including humpback whales, Juan Fernandez fur seals, and emperor penguins. The video will be part of an interactive CD-ROM destined for teaching marine science in the classroom. Lisa edited on site at National Geographic in Washington, D.C. _________________________________________________________ |

More For National Geographic's Crittercam (2004)
Developed by marine scientist, Greg Marshall, Crittercams have been placed primarily on marine species. But recently, the team has taken to land where it's attaching cameras to terrestrial animals. This summer, at the invitation of the National Park Service, Crittercam went to Yosemite to see what the black bears in Yosemite Valley are up to. SMP was contracted to shoot, well, everything that the bears didn't. In the photo above, Lisa and Kim take a shot of the door shutting from inside the bear trap.

We shot two week-long natural history trips aboard the Alaska Adventurer in order to produce a promotional DVD for the ship's captain Dennis Rogers. It was a fabulous experience and a photographic bounty. We encountered and taped killer whales, humpback whales, salmon, bears, glaciers, mountains, and even the northern lights. Deciding what to cut was tough, but the DVD is now available for those interested in an Alaska Sea Adventures. See www.YachtAlaska.com for more info on touching wild southeast Alaska. |
